Lame Front-End - Lame Front-End is a graphical interface for the popular and very fast MP3 encoder and decoder - LAME. It offers easy access to all LAME parameters without the need for command line usage.

The program offers a simple mode (for beginners), which was designed according to the LAME authors guidelines (http://lame.sourceforge.net/lame_ui_example.php), and an advanced mode which reveals additional expert options.

Lame Front-End can work in batch mode, so it can be used by external applications to encoding/decoding files, e.g. by Exact Audio Copy, CDex.

The application is designed for LAME 3.98.2 - the last stable release version in January 2009.

The most important features of the Lame Front-End:

* Converting WAV, PCM, AIFF, RAW files to MP3 (encoding).

* Converting MP3, MP2, MP1 files to WAV (decoding).

* Two modes: Simple for beginners, Expert for advanced users.

* Saving ID3v2 tags in the MP3 files.

* Integration with the Windows Explorer. Program adds a command Open with Lame Front-End to the context menu for supported files.

* Saving and loading LAME parameters.

* Small, easy to use and don't need any installation.

* Supported languages: english, german, italian, japanese, polish, russian.

* 100% freeware (for private and commercial use). There are no limitations, adware, spyware etc.

Version 1.1 from 2008-07-13

New version of the LAME encoder (3.98), small source code modification, and changed the license - now the program may also be used for commercial purposes. Previous version (Lame Front-End 1.0) can be used only for non-commercial purposes.

This is a very good piece of software.

Everything about this app is good. Some parts are very good. If you don't have a clue what you're doing you can still use this converter. If you have more experience there are enough tweaks to make you happy. I liked the self-contained "no install routine" setup. You can put the extracted file anywhere, run the .exe and it works. Perfect for using on a flash drive. The app is simple and stable and works perfectly as a batch converter. 4 stars.

impressive program

I used Lame Front-End to convert wave files into mp3 files. I have to say it was easy to use and very fast. It was simply a very good software.

The best I could find, but missed some feats

The program worked fine for me.
One thing I missed was the possibility to have different "tags" for
different files, when converting more than one file at a time.

Also it would be nice to be able to convert to more fomats.
